The Institute of Real Estate Technologies (IRET) was founded in 1992 by our Director, Ken Jones, an award-winning real estate agent, broker and professional appraiser since 1971.

Originally based in East Brunswick, New Jersey, Ken initially developed and instructed a full menu of real estate appraisal courses for local real estate appraisers wishing to become licensed or certified in compliance with the, then, newly enacted and federally mandated real estate appraiser licensing law.

Since this "new" appraiser licensing law also required appraisers to obtain a minimum number of state-approved continuing professional education hours in order to maintain their license, Ken realized there was to be an even greater demand for continuing education appraisal seminars; not only in New Jersey, but throughout the entire country.

In response to this anticipated demand, in 1993 Ken changed the focus of IRET from providing prelicensing courses to local appraisers, to developing and providing high-quality continuing education seminars to real estate appraisers throughout the United States.

At about that same time, more and more states began to require continuing professional education for licensed real estate agents. And, again, Ken expanded IRET's professional education services by developing unique continuing education seminars designed specifically for real estate agents.

More recently, and in response to changes in the legal relationships between consumers (buyers and sellers) and real estate agents, combined with widespread interest in real estate investing, Ken has developed numerous comprehensive real estate education products and seminars for both the real estate professional, as well as for the investor and those who would like to know more about investing in real estate.

Our purpose is simple: Provide useful information about and training in all aspects of real estate to all who seek this knowledge; present it in an easy-to-understand and entertaining manner; and provide it at a fair price.
